The AIDS Committee of North Bay & Area (ACNBA) is a community-based, registered, non-profit organization, serving people in the North Bay catchment area – bounded by West Nipissing, Kirkland Lake, Mattawa and Huntsville – who are infected and/or affected by HIV/AIDS or Hepatitis C since 1991.
ACNBA’s mission is to assist and support all people infected and/or affected by HIV/AIDS and/or Hepatitis C and to limit the spread of the viruses through education, outreach and treatment strategies.
The West Nipissing General Hospital’s Alliance Centre offers free, bilingual, and confidential mental health and substance abuse services to residents of the municipality of West Nipissing who are 16 years of age and older. Substance abuse services include a needle exchange program, community-based counseling, administration ofassessments necessary to accessing residential treatment as well as a Rapid Access to Addictions Medicine Program. All referral services, including self-referrals, are accepted. Open Monday to Friday 8:30 to 4:30.
CANADIAN MENTAL HEALTH ASSOCIATION – NORTH BAY & DISTRICT (CMHA)
Provide Mental Health, Addictions, Peer Support as well forensic services. Since our merger with three other community agencies, we’ve become a “super agency” that can service our clients by helping them navigate throughout our own internal resources which has been fantastic. With new funding we’ve taken the lead on a few new projects.
1.Is the oversight of CHO- Community Housing Opportunities which was formerly known as Homes for Special Care. The privately owned homes are located on Lakeshore the Morin residence and the Eide’s residence which is in Powassan. We will officially take over October 1st.
2.Secondly, we are partnering with the North Bay OPP for Crisis Call Diversion. We will provide Crisis Response Workers in the OPP call Centre. Our staff will help triage the Mental Health and Addictions calls. As the experts in the field, we will be able to navigate these calls as well provide referrals and follow up. This program has been very successful in Thunder Bay and Middlesex who are now expanding to 2 extra sites Orillia and North Bay. This is very exciting for us to be part of this partnership.
Community Counselling Centre of Nipissing: (CCCNIP) offers addictions services to youth and adults in the community without judgement based on your goals and tailor your services to your needs.
provide psychosocial assessments to help you understand your addiction and to set goals for therapy as well as GAINS assessments to assist in the referral process to residential treatment across Ontario.
provide youth counselling in high schools across the Nipissing District.
is the main site for the Rapid Access Addiction Medicine (RAAM) clinic where you can schedule appointments with physicians to manage the effects of opioid and alcohol withdrawal and access referrals to other programs in the community.
provides individual psychotherapy, outreach, and case management to clients with a harm reduction, client centered approach that meets your goals for wellness.
provides services to Indigenous people and their families using approaches based on traditional teachings.
provides psychotherapy to help people that may be struggling with the effects of gambling.

The North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit (Health Unit) provides a wide range of programs and services to over 120,000 residents in the Nipissing and Parry Sound districts. The Health Unit aims to improve the health of populations by offering services, such as sexual health, oral health, and immunizations. In addition to this, the Health Unit develops, implements, and evaluates health promotion initiatives that aim to address infectious disease, environmental hazards, healthy eating and physical activity, injury prevention, substance use, and child/youth development. Withdrawal Management Services
*Patients requesting withdrawal management services are triaged for appropriate level of care by trained staff(833)434-7800.
Hospital-Based Withdrawal Management
Inpatient medically supported withdrawal management for those experiencing moderate to severe withdrawal symptoms. Physicians, nursing, and allied staff support patients while actively going through withdrawal. Where appropriate, staff assist patients to identify recovery goals and link with appropriate community resources for additional support. Where possible, attempts are made to engage in services while admitted.
Community withdrawal management services (Community based)
Medically supported withdrawal management for those experiencing mild to moderate withdrawal symptoms who are admitted to the inpatient program. Physicians, nursing, and allied staff support patients while actively going through withdrawal. Where appropriate,staff, including case managers, assist patients to identify recovery goals and link with appropriate community resources for additional support. Where possible, attempts are made to engage in services while admitted.
Rapid Access Addiction Medicine Clinic (RAAM)
Fast access to short term medication support for those wishing to reduce or prevent cravings/withdrawal from primary alcohol or opioid use. Persons typically wish to withdraw from substances at home. Additional supportive resources of psychotherapist and caseworker available while participating in programming. Assistance is provided to patients wishing to connect with other community resources for additional support. Patients can call the ramp clinic at 705474 8600-extension 3292 or 3291. Alternatively, they can present to the King Street Campus, or be referred using the Central Intake Referral Form.
Day/EveningTreatment Program
Community based psychotherapeutic support for those experiencing the challenges of substance use and mental health issues. Clients participate in an individualized treatment plan based on their unique recovery treatment goals. Participation can occur over 4 to 16 weeks depending on each individual’s treatment needs which are review every treatment which are review every treatment cycle. Where possible, engagement can occur while patients are admitted to withdrawal management services. Patients and/or others can refer using the Central Intake Referral Form.
Nipissing First Nation – The Right Path Counselling and Prevention Program
The Right Path Counselling and Prevention services offers addiction and mental health services to members of Nipissing First Nation and eligible affiliates and services are available across the lifespan. The staff includes Mental Health Therapists, Addictions Counsellors, Child and Youth Mental Health and Addictions Counsellors, a psychologist, Wiidooktaadyang/Family Well Being Worker offers case management supports,and access to psychiatry is also available.
Access to withdrawal management, suboxone treatment, and traditional/land-based services are offered through the Culturally Defined Community Withdrawal Management Program. This program offerscommunity withdrawal services while also supporting individuals involved with medically assisted recovery (suboxone and methadone). Traditional teachings, ceremonies, use of medicines and land-based activities are a central part of the services and have been developed using the First Nation Mental Wellness Continuum Framework.
All services are delivered using both harm reduction as well as a trauma informed approach to care.
The District Nipissing Social Services Administration Board (DNSSAB) contracts out the delivery of paramedic services to three providers in the Nipissing District. Those providers are North Bay Regional Health Centre, Mattawa General Hospital, and the Town of Temagami.
There are five ambulance bases operating in the Nipissing District: North Bay, Mattawa, West Nipissing, Temagami, and South Algonquin (Whitney). Together the bases have a combined fleet of 21 ambulance vehicles.
The North Bay Central Communication Communications Centre provides emergency medical communications services 24 hours/day/7day/week for our area.
The service providers have 80+ highly skilled and trained Paramedics providing quality emergency medical services through the district.
